The Mouvement de liberation du Congo(MLC) confirmed on Thursday that fighting was going on between its forces and Congolese government forces. "What is happening is that since October last year, Kabila and his allies have been attacking our positions and we are now pursuing the enemy and the fighting continues," MLC leader Jean-Pierre Bemba told IRIN. On
Wednesday, the Congolese armed forces and their allies said they had repelled MLC assaults on the towns of Mobaza and Buburu, killing more than 600 rebels. UN observers in Congo last week said MLC rebels backed by Uganda were beefing up their troops around Mbandaka, the main town in Equator province of northwestern Congo.
