Opposition party on verge of splitting

    JOHANNESBURG

    Namibia’s Republican Party (RP) has threatened to pull out of The Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA) in Namibia if the land redistribution issue is not resolved, news reports said.

    The RP threat follows recent claims by DTA MP and Herero Chief Kuaima Riruako that the policy of national reconciliation had failed to address the issue of stolen land in Namibia.

    DTA secretary for information, McHenry Venaani, called yesterday on the Republican Party (RP), a founding member of the DTA with a white following, to publicly withdraw its threat to pull out of the alliance because of its unhappiness about recent statements by DTA leaders on land.

    Venaani said the statements on land were “in accordance with the procedures of the mother party (DTA)”, while the RP threat to pull out of the opposition if no agreement on the issue of land redistribution was reached within the DTA was not procedural.
