Zambian Environment Minister Ben Mwila, who last week announced his intention to contest the presidency, will face disciplinary measures for going against the government’s collective responsibility, news reports said on Wednesday.
Information Minister Newstead Zimba said Mwila’s announcement that he would contest the presidency and his condemnation of rampant poverty in Zambia are breaches of the constitution, which prohibits serving ministers from criticising the government they are part of. He said Mwila should have resigned from the government before announcing his presidential candidature and attacking the government’s policies.
