The European Union has said it will send 160 observers to monitor the election, confident that they will be able to carry out their job safely.
In a statement on Tuesday, the EU’s executive commission said the observer team would be led by Pierre Schori, the former Swedish international development minister, now vice-president of the European Parliament’s Socialist group. The observers will be joined by 10 monitors from Norway, which is not a member of the EU.
