Russian President says Russian airmen freed

    JOHANNESBURG

    President Vladimir Putin of Russia said on Tuesday that five Russian airmen were released in Angola, and a plane would be sent to repatriate them, the Itar-Tass reported.

    According to the report, Putin thanked the foreign ministry and public organisations for their efforts to bail out the Russian pilots whose planes were shot down in Angola last year.

    He said the pilots were free and staying in Zambia. A plane of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry will fly to Zambia on Thursday to pick them up.
