The Ethiopian air raid on the military airport in Asmara on Monday caused no damage to installations, although a guard outpost close to the runway was destroyed, the Eritrean news agency (Erina) reported on Monday. It said cluster bombs dropped by the four Ethiopian planes that carried out the raid had left big craters in the main road and injured two civilians. It described the raid as an act of “senseless terror”. Aid workers in Asmara expressed concern on Tuesday that any further raids on the airport could jeopardise further deliveries of humanitarian supplies. “At this stage we have no plans to cancel aid aircraft, but should any new attacks happen, the most immediate impact would be on the three aid flights expected this week. It really hangs in the balance right now,” said WFP spokesperson Lindsey Davies.
