In a precautionary measure, the United States has decided to withdraw all 105 Peace Corps volunteers from rural Zimbabwe because of the political violence, the US embassy said in a statement on Monday.
“The volunteers assigned to rural sites are being withdrawn because of the current unsettled political and economic situation in Zimbabwe that has led to some violence, particularly in rural areas,” an embassy media statement said. The volunteers have provided assistance in education, business development and environmental protection.
