War veterans attack police station

A group of about 30 Zimbabwean war veterans on Thursday attacked a police station in the rural town of Mvurwi about 80 km north of Harare, news reports said.

According to the reports the group was attempting to release detained members of the ruling ZANU-PF party. The reports quoted a police spokesman as saying that the attackers started throwing stones at the station, forcing police to fire teargas to disperse them. Six of the attackers were arrested and one injured.

About 19 people, including members of both the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and ZANU-PF were arrested in the town on Wednesday in connection with clashes between the rival parties following a ZANU-PF rally.
