Farmers’ organisations in South Africa and Namibia have joined Zimbabwe’s Commercial Farmers Union (CFU) and warned that the land crisis in Zimbabwe had become a regional issue, media reports said on Friday.
“Unfortunately, the result of failure with land reform cannot be ring-fenced to the country concerned, but its effects will be felt in the region,” said a statement issued by the CFU, Agri South Africa, the (South African) National African Farmers Union and the Namibia Agricultural Union.
“The breakdown in the rule of law in that country and the economic havoc that this is causing, is no longer only a Zimbabwean issue,” the statement said. “The well-being and prospects of southern Africa are being harmed by the present situation. The way in which the process concerning land invasion is presently managed, exemplifies a sorry and unacceptable state of affairs,” it added.
