The ICRC, in conjunction with the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society, this week distributed blankets, sleeping mats, soap, canvas sheets and buckets to 11,640 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Lungi, north of Freetown, ICRC reported in its latest humanitarian update.
The IDPs, mostly women and children, had just arrived from areas such as Port Loko, Masiaka and Makeni in the north, after fleeing the fighting that has raged in the country for weeks, ICRC said.
