Nigeria recovers US $78 million

Nigeria has recovered 7.8 billion naira (around US $78 million dollars) in looted funds from two former associates of late military ruler General Sani Abacha, news reports said.

The two are former Central Bank of Nigeria governor Paul Ogwuma and Abacha business associate Gilbert Chagoury, AFP reported on Saturday, citing Senator Idris Abubakar, chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts.

Abubakar said the committee was still investigating other unnamed officials. Millions of dollars in public funds were stolen during more than 15 years of military rule in Nigeria.
