Government urged to resume road building

Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu on Monday called on Nigeria’s federal government to resume the construction of two highways from Lagos to the northern and southeastern cities of Sokoto and Port Harcourt, ‘The Guardian’ reported.

The state’s commissioner for works, Rauf Aregbesola, said at an annual conference of directors of civil engineering in Lagos, that the proposed highways would reduce travel time between Lagos and the two other cities.

He said that, of the 32,097.5 km of roads built by the federal government, only 438.66 km, or 1.5 percent, were in Lagos, Nigeria’s biggest city, which has the highest vehicular density in the country - 222 vehicles/km.
