Government and Renamo negotiate provincial governorship

The Mozambican government and the main opposition Mozambique National Resistance (Renamo) are holding talks on provincial governorship as a way out of an ongoing dispute over last December’s general election results, a senior Renamo official said.

“Negotiations are really taking place and at a good rhythm,” he was quoted as saying in news reports on Friday.

He added added that the government delegation to the negotiations is led by Tomas Salomao, the country’s minister of transport and communications, while Renamo’s team was led by top Renamo parliamentarian and peace negotiator, Raul Domingos.
