A summit between Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni is scheduled to take place on Sunday, officials said. “The information we have is that the summit will take place in [the northwestern Tanzanian town of] Mwanza,” Theogene Rudasingwa, director of the office of the Rwandan president, told IRIN on Wednesday. “It will revolve around the recent clashes in Kisangani and other regional matters,” he said. Ugandan officials, however, said the venue was not yet confirmed, though they did not rule out Tanzania. Meanwhile, diplomatic sources told IRIN that Presidents Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania and Thabo Mbeki of South Africa would attend the summit. “The two leaders of Uganda and Rwanda have met several times without resolving their differences. It is time for a third party to commit them to what is agreed upon,” a senior Tanzanian government official told IRIN.
