Workers threaten strike at Cahora Bassa Dam

An estimated 900 workers at the Cahora Bassa dam in the western Mozambican province of Tete have threatened to go on strike.

According to news reports, workers are demanding that they be given the same rights as those granted to foreign workers at the plant.

Quoting sources at the plant, Radio Mozambique said that if the strike were to go ahead, there will be a risk of flooding in the Zambezi valley, and neighbouring Zimbabwe may be deprived of electricity.
