UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Monday called on the governments of neighbouring states to “do everything possible to prevent the reported movement of rebels from the territory of their countries to Sierra Leone”, UN spokesman Fred Eckhard told journalists on Monday. Annan also urged West African leaders to “redouble their efforts to bring the situation under control and restore normalcy”.
Eckhard said there had been unconfirmed reports that rebels had been moving from Liberia and Guinea into Sierra Leone.
