After intensive fighting between Rwandan and Ugandan army troops in the northeastern DRC town of Kisangani on Friday, the Rwandan authorities on Monday accused Uganda of deploying troops on the countries’ common border. “Yes, Uganda has increased on troops deployed directly opposite our border in the following areas: Mirama Hill and Kamwenzi, and increased on troop strength in the major towns like Kabale and Kisoro,” Rwandan Army spokesman Major Emmanuel Ndahiro told IRIN. However, a Ugandan security official said Uganda had always had troops at each of its border, and had not increased the number deployed on the border with Rwanda. “On the contrary, it is they who have increased deployment on their side,” the Ugandan official added.
