Tourism hard hit by crisis

The flow of tourists to Zimbabwe has been cut in half since the start of the country’s political crisis, jeopardising thousands of jobs, news reports said on Friday.

Bookings in the country’s 365 tourist hotels have fallen 50 percent over the Easter period compared with last year, the official news agency Ziana reported. It said restaurant owners and safari operators have also been hard hit by the crisis with visits to two main attractions - Victoria Falls and Lake Kariba - reported to be well below normal levels.
