British Prime Minister Tony Blair on Wednesday pledged 100,000 pounds sterling (some $160,000) towards conflict resolution in Burundi when he met the facilitator of the Arusha peace process, former South African president Nelson Mandela, in London. Mandela, who visited Burundi for the first time as facilitator on Friday, briefed Blair on the peace process and said the Burundi army was fully supportive of it, news organisations reported. The integration of Hutu rebel elements into an army dominated by minority Tutsis is one of the most difficult and crucial elements to be thrashed out in the peace talks.
