Premier renews call to fight corruption

Prime Minister Bernard Makuza has reiterated the government’s call to fight corruption and urged Rwandans to “work in transparency”, the Rwanda News Agency (RNA) reported. In his Labour Day message on Monday, he said corruption “challenges sustainable development”. “Rwanda will only develop through human resource development, tapping it to the full and proper management of available resources,” he said. He noted that the government was currently restructuring its institutions “and appropriate laws are yet to be put in place to suit the present situation”. RNA said corruption was “rampant” in government circles, noting that the former prime minister and several ministers were summoned by parliament on corruption charges.
