DRC President Laurent-Desire Kabila has hailed last week’s summit in Algeria as a success. Interviewed by Algerian radio, he said the sides had agreed on a number of proposals “which need to be put forward in a much broader framework in order to enable the Lusaka process, which is virtually deadlocked, to function”. He said the summit meeting addressed the DRC’s problems “without any complacency”. “The rapid arrival of UN troops gives a huge hope,” he added. Kabila said the inter-Congolese dialogue should start as soon as possible and that it should take place within the country.
