ICRC brings together former foes

Government soldiers and Ninja militia in the Kindamba area of the Pool region recently took part together in ICRC courses aimed at familiarising combatants with international humanitarian law. In a statement, the ICRC said it was rare for "mutually hostile forces" to take the courses in the same classroom. "Such a thing would have been unthinkable only a few
months ago," it said. Including the Ninja in the event was an initiative of a local government military commander. "The Ninjas - dressed in civilian clothes but recognisable by their beards and their 'dreadlocks' - sat in front while the government soldiers - clean-shaven and in uniform - sat behind them," the statement said, adding that their was a "certain
fraternal spirit" palpable between the ex-adversaries.
