Opposition threatens retaliation

Morgan Tsvangirai of MDC was quoted as saying leaders of ZANU-PF who have publicly condoned violence against his party's members "must account for their actions and would themselves face attacks on their homes".

"We are taking this violence to their doorsteps. We cannot fold our arms while our members are being killed," Tsvangirai reportedly said. His comments come after three more people, members and supporters of MDC, were killed by ZANU-PF supporters. The latest deaths bring to five the number of
MDC supporters killed in five days.

Tsvangirai said two of the three victims were MDC youth workers who were beaten to death in the northern town of Kariba. The third victim, a bouncer at a bar in a suburb of the capital, Harare died after being beaten because he was wearing an MDC T-shirt.

State radio quoted a police spokesman as saying that 15 ZANU-PF supporters had been arrested after the violence in the Kariba town.
