Residents ignore opposition protest call

Kinshasa residents on Saturday failed to respond to a call by opposition leaders, including Joseph Olenghankoy of the Force novatrices pour l'union et la solidarite (FONUS), for a "ghost city operation", Congolese television reported. "Defying the rain that fell on the Kinshasa, they freely went about their normal duties," it said. Olenghankoy had called for a stay-at-home action to protest delays in implementing the Lusaka
peace deal. Independent sources confirmed to IRIN on Monday that the call "was not supported at all" in the capital. "Everything went on as usual," one Kinshasa resident said.
