Highway authority targets port access roads

Reconstruction efforts are ongoing on the highways that link Ethiopia to Djibouti, Berbera and Sudan ports, according to Ethiopian news reports quoting Debebe Gizaw, press officer of the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA). Some 115km of the 185 km Gondar-Metema road giving Ethiopia access to Port Sudan had been rehabilitated, while a $500,000 project was underway on the 40km Gelafe-Boke highway that formed part of the Ethiopia-Djibouti road and rail link, Debebe said. In addition, the European Commission was finalising its study of a proposed Harar-Jijiga-Wuchale road rehabilitation project linking eastern Ethiopia
with the Somaliland port of Berbera, he added.
