Kuwait funds road project

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Development on Thursday signed a loan agreement of US $10 million with Zambia for the construction of the Mongu-Kalabo road, 'The Post' reported.

The loan, payable over 20 years, would cover 29 percent of the total cost of tarring the 70 km stretch of road, which is expected to be completed in 2003.

The road, once completed, would provide Zambia with a shorter route to the Angolan and Namibian sea ports. The route, through Mongu and Kalabo in the western province, is 700 km shorter to the port of Lobito in Angola, the reports added.
