Murder trial of Abacha's son adjourned

The murder trial of four persons including the son of Nigeria's late military ruler, General Sani Abacha, has been adjourned to 23 February, pending an appeal court ruling on the case, AFP reported.

The four include 33-year-old Mohammed Sani Abacha and former top security official Major Hamza al-Mustapha. They are accused of murdering Kudirat Abiola, wife of late opposition politician Moshood Abiola, in 1996.

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun of the Lagos High Court, which is hearing the case, said she was adjourning the trial to allow the Appeal Court to hear a motion for a stay of proceedings on 21 February. The trial began on 14 October 1999.
