Some legislators in Cross River State in south-eastern Nigeria have called for the establishment of a state police force following border skirmishes between communities in Cross River and neighbouring Akwa Ibom State, 'The Guardian' reported on Monday.
Members of the Cross River House of Assembly said such a force would help the federal police, whose performance had not been satisfactory.
The Akwa Ibom government recently accused people from Cross River of sacking a police post and primary school in a cross-border skirmish, but Cross River reportedly refuted this, charging that it was Akwa Ibom indigenes who attacked their neighbours, 'The Guardian' said.
