Japanese government donates food aid

Japan has donated aid through the UN World Food Programme to West African refugees and others facing severe food shortages because of civil war and other causes, the Japanese government said in a news release on Tuesday. The food aid, maize meal and beans worth some 700 million yen (US$ 6.78 million) will benefit five countries including Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, the news release said.
