Opposition parties march against government

Supporters of five opposition parties demonstrated peacefully in Accra on Thursday against the government’s political and economic policies, according to news organisations. Organisers said their demonstration was to demand a withdrawal of recent increases in hospital user fees and a freeze in public sector layoffs, which have increased since the privatisation of many state owned firms. “We are telling the nation that, come next year and when the elections come, the people of Ghana should use the ballot box, for the first time, to change government peacefully, because this government is very, very exhausted,” J.A. Kufuor of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) said on state owned GBC radio.
