The Malawi government has sent a 10-member ceasefire observer team to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), media reports said on Thursday.
The group flew first to the Zambian capital Lusaka for a “strategic training” course which has been sponsored by the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) before being deployed in the DRC capital, Kinshasa. “We will not take sides. We will advise both soldiers belonging to the government camp and the rebels on the importance of keeping the peace,” a Malawian army officer was quoted as saying.
