IMF chief to quit early next year

The head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) says that he will quit early next year, a media statement from the IMF said on Wednesday. Frenchman Michel Camdessus, who was head of the IMF for 13 years, said that he hoped to leave the organisation by the middle of February. He urged the IMF to appoint his successor as soon as possible saying the global economic “circumstances were now favourable.” He said he would not object to a successor from the private sector, which has often criticised IMF policies.
