Danes withdraw union advisor

The Danish Confederation of Trades Unions has ordered Georg Lemke to withdraw from Zimbabwe on 31 October, to pre-empt Robert Mugabe’s government from declaring him a prohibited immigrant, news reports said. Lemke, who has been attached to the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) as an advisor for the past two-and-a-half years, has been accused by Mugabe’s government of securing international funds for the trade union federation to launch a political party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). The action led to a Danish aid project evaluation mission, due in the country next month, to cancel its trip, putting in jeopardy bilateral aid to Zimbabwe by the Danes, added the reports.
