The rebel Armee de liberation du Rwanda (ALIR) has denied recent reports that over 200 Interahamwe militiamen have been killed in eastern DRC. In a press release dated 14 October, received by IRIN, ALIR - which groups Interahamwe militia and ex-FAR members - claimed the Rwandan army had deployed “numerous battalions” in North Kivu after receiving “false information” that Congolese troops were about to launch an attack on Goma, aided by “white mercenaries”.
