Zambia’s ruling Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) has won five of the 11 seats contested in local government by-elections, news reports said on Monday.
The seats contested were vacated through the deaths or resignations of councillors. Mweela Muleya, information and research manager of the Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP), said although the by-elections had been held peacefully, it was still investigating reports of malpractice in some areas.
