The Nyerere Foundation denied that the Arusha process has been a failure. In an overview of the peace process presented to a Montreal conference on Burundi recently, the Foundation’s executive director Joseph Butiku said a virtue of the talks was to bring together political parties, individuals from inside and outside the country who had previously been unable to communicate. One of the problems of the Arusha process, he said, was regular and accurate information and the Foundation was seeking to rectify this.
