SADC to Spend US $2.6 Million on preserving animal genetic resources

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) says that it will spend an estimated US $2.6 million on a three-year regional project which is aimed at preserving the diminishing animal genetic resources, media reports said On Tuesday. "There was need to build an inventory on the available livestock breeds and their genetic characteristics for the management of the available species," Louise Setshwaelo, one of SADC's chief technical advisors was quoted as saying. She said the project would provide information to the policy makers, farmers and other stakeholders on the region's potential in overall food security provision and poverty reduction.
