Dos Santos rules out any further negotiations with UNITA

Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos said that there would be no further negotiations with the UNITA rebel movement, media reports in the Mozambican capital Maputo said on Wednesday. Dos Santos made the remarks as heads of state gathered in the Mozambique capital, Maputo, for Wednesday's summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Dos Santos was quoted as saying that there "was nothing left to negotiate" and that UNITA had to comply with the 1994 UN brokered Lusaka Protocol peace accords. The Angolan president also claimed that UNITA was supporting rebel forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and separatists who launched an attack two weeks ago in Namibia's northeast Caprivi Strip.
