DRC peace deal positive

    JOHANNESBURG
    Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe was reportedly cautiously optimistic over prospects for peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) after talks in Harare on Thursday with DRC President Laurent-Desire Kabila. "You can't get everything you want in negotiations, but basically it creates optimism on our part," Mugabe told reporters. "We hope all parties are genuine. As long as there is genuineness on the part of all parties, we would hope that there will be on the ground the requisite settlement." Mugabe said Kabila had come to Harare for consultations "to see whether our points of view are in agreement as allies."
