Opposition calls for unity government

The Malawi opposition has urged President Bakili Muluzi to form a government of national unity to defuse an upsurge of political violence following disputed general elections, PANA reported on Tuesday. Heatherwick Ntaba, political secretary of the opposition alliance of the Malawi Congress Party and the Alliance for Democracy, said Muluzi should call for peace talks among all political parties and fashion out a working relationship. But Muluzi said recently a coalition government would be out of the question. “Malawi is at peace so the opposition should play their rightful role in opposition to give government alternatives.”
