Bomb disposal experts have defused five landmines in Sinazongwe along Lake Kariba following the death of a World Bank consultant on Sunday after a car in which he and two others were travelling in detonated a mine, media reports said.
The mines were reportedly detected and defused by experts who had been assigned to clear the area of explosives ahead of development work on a road in the Gwembe valley. The 250 km stretch of Gwembe valley along Lake Kariba is reportedly infested with landmines which were planted during the struggle for Zimbabwean independence.
