Radical Tutsi groups warn Mandela on peace process

A radical Tutsi faction, absent from the Arusha talks, on Wednesday warned that current moves in the peace process were “dangerous” for the mediator, Nelson Mandela, who has invited Hutu rebels to join the talks. “There is no question of us joining the negotiating table in Arusha but we have a moral obligation to tell Mandela that what is being done is very dangerous for him, for Burundi, for the region and for Africa as a whole,” the president of the radical wing of the main Tutsi party, UPRONA, Charles Mukasi, told AFP. He did not elaborate. Radical Tutsi parties accuse rebel groups of “committing genocide” after the killing of the first democratically-elected president in 1993 and are against involving them in the negotiations.
