Illegal immigrants arrested

Zambia’s immigration and security agents on Wednesday rounded up and detained more than 750 suspected illegal immigrants - mostly Somalis - from the Copperbelt town of Ndola, news reports said.

Arthur Yoyo, a local government official, said the Zambian government was concerned about the growing number of illegal immigrants allegedly involved in criminal activities.

Early this year, there were more than 200 illegal aliens in Zambia’s prisons. Most of them have been in jail for more than five years because the Zambian government says it cannot afford air fares to fly them back home.
