Militant youths from the Niger Delta area in southeastern Nigeria have kidnapped two Chinese oil workers, media organizations reported over the weekend. The ‘Post Express’, a Lagos daily, said militant youths kidnapped the China National Petroleum Corporation workers after a gun battle with security officials escorting a boat in which they were travelling on the Forcados River in Delta State. Kidnappings are frequent in the oil-producing Niger Delta, AFP reported a military official as saying 40 people, most of them Nigerians, had been abducted in the past week.
