The Organisation of African Unity (OAU) said on Saturday it would send observers to monitor the June ceasefire between Ethiopia and Eritrea. The decision was made on Friday, but no details have been provided on the number of observers to be deployed, AFP reported. Both military and civilian observers would be deployed, the OAU said. Liaison offices were opened in the Ethiopian and Eritrean capitals last week by the UN. The first 100 UN observers were expected to be deployed after the UN Security Council had decided this week on the size and composition of its observer contingent, UN spokesman Fred Eckhard said on Friday.
