Walvis Bay harbour deepened

    JOHANNESBURG

    The deepening of Walvis Bay harbour, Namibia’s main port, to enable it to handle larger vessels has been completed, according to news reports quoting the Chief Executive Officer of the Namibian Ports Authority (NamPort), Wessie Wessels.

    Wessels told a news conference on Wednesday that this put the harbour on a par with Cape Town and meant Walvis Bay could now accommodate container vessels with up to twice the capacity of the previous limit. NamPort has invested over US $30 million to upgrade the country’s two harbours at Walvis Bay and Luderitz.
