Zambian President Frederick Chiluba, who is also the official mediator in the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has said all the warring factions in DRC have agreed to meet in the Zambian capital, Lusaka, on Monday to reactivate the peace process for that country.
Media reports quoted Chiluba as saying DRC President Laurent-Desire Kabila had agreed to attend in person. “President Kabila is positive. He is for peace. He has never told me that the problems of Congo will be solved through war,” Chiluba was quoted on his return from DRC.
Chiluba added he has been in touch with the presidents of Zimbabwe, Namibia and Angola, whose soldiers are helping Kabila’s government in the war against rebels backed by Rwanda and Uganda.
