The Zambian government has expressed concern that some refugees are entering the country with illegal firearms, Home Affairs Minister Peter Machungwa said.
Zambia’s ‘Daily Mail’ newspaper said the minister told visiting UNHCR regional director for Southern Africa, Ilunga Ngandu, that the government in partnership with the UNHCR would construct police posts and houses for police officers in refugee camps to ensure security in the areas. He added that there was also need to rehabilitate and construct roads and bridges in refugee camps for easy access to the areas.
