An annual suspension of trawler fishing along Mauritania's coasts, initiated in 1993 to allow over-exploited species to regenerate, entered into effect on Thursday, PANA reported an official source in Nouakchott as saying. The suspension coincides each year with the September-October spawning season.
Mauritania's waters are considered among the world's richest in fish.
