United Nations military observers started a four day training course this week in Ethiopia and Eritrea, the UN reported. Observers are being trained in the organisation of UN peacekeeping missions, the role and code of conduct of UN military observers, and the history, culture, economy and geography of the mission area. The course also covers an overview of the conflict and the humanitarian situation, and includes training in landmine awareness techniques and first aid. The first batch of military “blue helmets” are expected to be deployed in the mission area by the weekend.
